Skills Upgrade Session
The skills upgrade session teaches human centric design methods. Teams will be formed and each team’s job is to research one aspect of a building’s journey from sketch to construction to deconstruction.
The research will help inform the teams to create new solutions in the hackathon.
Human centred design / design thinking helps us understand people’s needs and wants during a process or life stage, from the people who are involved in designing buildings, constructing buildings in factories, transporting, erecting them, finishing them to the people that will use the space. Each stage involves different people with different skills, expectations and needs.

Over the course of three days, from 9-15, you’ll learn different aspects of human centred design. Topics covered include: universal design, stakeholder mapping and journey mapping, jobs-to-be-done theory, personas, circular design, user lifecycle, research methods and co-creation, Kano model, touchpoint analysis, benchmarking and finally team management and work planning.

Between March 24 and April 5 teams conduct independent research based on the journey mapping framework. Each team will research one aspect of the journey. (Don’t worry, you’ll get detailed instructions during the training.)
April 5 there will be one additional half-day of communication and presentation skills training. Why? Because the value of information is only realised if it can be communicated clearly.
