This special kind of cellulose is grown by bacteria and it\u2019s a by-product of kombucha drink production. But it\u2019s actually so much more!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For one thing, its unique crystalline nanostructure allows it to store almost 100 times its weight in water. In an effort to learn from nature, we\u2019re bringing research on bacterial nanocellulose into urban design. Just like plants, we\u2019re using natural nanostructures to store water, trying to adapt to rapidly approaching climate change. And just like in plants, the shape of the material changes depending on water content.
